Black History Month Highlight: Rep. Kem Smith



Representative Kem Smith, a Democrat, was elected to her first two-year term in November 2024 to represent part of St. Louis County (District 68) in the Missouri House of Representatives.

Rep. Smith grew up in North St. Louis County and is a graduate of Hazelwood Central High School and North Central University. Smith received her Doctorate of Education from NCU in December 2022, is a veteran educator and has first-hand experience in seeing economic impacts on the local community.

Smith holds a deeply firm belief in the power of positive change, based on the principles of fairness and equality, underscoring her commitment to serve her constituents.

Outside her legislative duties, Rep. Smith cherishes time with her husband, Orlando, and children: Jasmine, Trevon, Breonna, Jaylin, and Joy. She is also a proud grandmother.
