JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — State Rep. Paula Brown, D-Hazelwood, filed legislation during the prefiling period to uphold ethical legislating practices in the Missouri General Assembly.
Her bill would require any member of the Missouri House or Senate to disclose to the Missouri Ethics Commission any piece of legislation that will directly benefit their employer. They would have 15 days to disclose the MEC about such a bill or resolution.
“This incredibly simple and common-sense bill would, at the very least, shed some light and bring more transparency to our legislative process,” Brown said. “While our institution relies upon people from all sectors of our society to write laws that provide the best path forward for our state, we should not have legislators filing bills that anyone could even perceive as advancing their own interests.”
The bill is House Bill 1850.
